EIC Accelerator — GenAI4EU Challenge 2026
The EU's flagship AI startup grant — up to €2.5M non-dilutive plus up to €10M equity investment for European GenAI startups. Part of the €700M GenAI4EU initiative. Next Step 2 (full proposal) deadline is July 8, 2026.
The largest non-dilutive AI grant available to European startups — up to €2.5M cash plus up to €10M equity in a single programme. The GenAI4EU challenge is part of a €700M EU commitment to make European AI labs globally competitive.
The EIC Accelerator GenAI4EU Challenge is part of the European Innovation Council’s flagship funding programme, specifically targeting startups and SMEs building transformative generative AI solutions. It is one of five thematic challenges under the 2026 EIC Accelerator work programme.
Funding structure:
- Grant only: Up to €2.5M (innovation activities at TRL 6–8)
- Blended finance: Grant (up to €2.5M) + equity (up to €10M) — for companies needing larger capital to scale
- Equity only: Available for market deployment (TRL 9+)
What the challenge funds:
- European startups/SMEs developing human-centric generative AI with real-world deployment potential
- Focus on transparency, accountability, and EU AI Act compliance
- Applications across any sector — priority on solutions that enhance human expertise
Application process (3 steps):
- Step 1 (Short proposal): Submit anytime — evaluated within 4–6 weeks. Receive GO/NO-GO.
- Step 2 (Full proposal): 20-page proposal, pitch deck, 3-minute video, budget. Deadline: July 8, 2026
- Step 3 (Interview): Live pitch to EIC Jury. Results in 2–3 weeks.
Eligible countries: All EU member states + Horizon Europe associated countries (Israel, UK for grants only, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, etc.)
Note: Step 1 can be submitted at any time. You must receive a GO on Step 1 before submitting Step 2. If you haven’t started Step 1, aim for the September 2 or November 4 cut-offs instead.
